winter at Lake Achensee in Tyrol
SNOW CAN DO MORE

Winter vacation on the Achensee away from the slopes

If one believes Austropop star Wolfgang Ambros, who was singing skiing is „das Leiwandste, wos ma si nur vorstön ko”. But there are also activities in the snow that don't require you to buckle up two boards.

The Tyrolean holiday region around Pertisau in particular is not only popular with skiers and cross-country skiers, but also with those who want to have fun on their winter holiday away from the slopes and cross-country trails in the white landscape.

Whether on winter hikes, ski tours or action-packed snow kite sessions: At the Achensee you can design your vacation the way you want it!

TOBOGGANING AND SLEDGING ON THE ACHENSEE

Off to the toboggan & into fast-paced fun!

Five toboggan runs around the Achensee ensure plenty of variety. The one- to three-kilometer-long routes in Achenkirch, Maurach, Pertisau, Steinberg and Wiesing invite you to social toboggan runs - including a rustic stop.

The ideal choice for a spontaneous toboggan run in the evening can be found in close proximity of the Seehotel Einwaller in Pertisau. On the one and a half kilometer long, illuminated natural toboggan run in Pertisau you have the opportunity to make rapid descents every day until 11 p.m. After the ascent, which takes place on a separate footpath or by the “Toboggan Express” (every hour - up to 25 people), depending on your mood, we recommend refreshment at the Rodlhütte at 1,120 meters.

IT’S ALL ABOUT ICE

How to turn frozen water molecules into fun

The ice rink in Pertisau also offers alternative winter fun away from the slopes. Directly at the fire station, only around 500 meters from the Seehotel Einwaller, you can both skate your laps over the ice and compete against each other in curling.

The variety is guaranteed not to be neglected on a winter holiday at the Achensee.

The Lake Achensee remains largely ice-free even during very cold winters. However, it is possible for ice to form along the shores and in sheltered bays, but the majority of the Lake typically stays free of ice.

The drainage of water primarily serves flood protection, energy generation, and maintenance purposes. These measures are crucial for protecting the region and its residents from flooding and ensuring a reliable electricity supply.
