What is special about Lake Achensee?
The Lake Achensee is surrounded by an impressive mountain landscape. The lake lies between the Karwendel Mountains in the west and the Brandenberg Alps in the east. As the largest lake in Tyrol, it is known for its crystal-clear, clean water with a visibility depth of up to 10 meters. Achensee offers many opportunities for recreational activities. In addition to swimming and diving, you can also sail, surf, kitesurf, stand-up paddleboard, and go boating. In winter, the Lake is a popular destination for ice sports.
Is Lake Achensee a bathing lake?
Yes, Achensee is a swimming lake and offers numerous opportunities for watersports. Although it has cooler temperatures compared to other swimming lakes, it is a popular destination for swimmers. In the summer months, the lake reaches its highest temperatures, typically between 18 °C and 22 °C. On particularly warm days, the temperature can even rise slightly above 22 °C.
Where can I swim at Lake Achensee?
The lakeshore is entirely accessible. The best areas for swimming are in front of Pertisau and on the west shore. The shallow water area at Buchau warms up particularly quickly, making it a favorite spot for both adults and children to swim.
In addition, there are several official and popular swimming spots around Achensee that are well-equipped and easily accessible. Some of the best-known bathing spots include the family-friendly Strandbad Pertisau, which has a sunbathing lawn, changing rooms, sanitary facilities, and a kiosk. The Strandbad Buchau in Maurach offers sunbathing lawns, a playground, a beach volleyball court, and a restaurant. The natural swimming beach Schwarzenau, located between Achenkirch and Pertisau, provides tranquility and a beautiful natural setting. The Achenkirch beach is a quiet spot in the northern part of the lake, ideal for swimming and sunbathing. The Seebad Achensee in Maurach is another popular beach with numerous amenities, including a restaurant and various recreational opportunities.
